Brandy Performs to an Empty Stadium

It was weird but ace singer, Brandy performed for empty chairs in South Africa during the Mandela Sports and Culture Day in South Africa.
The FNB stadium in Soweto which paid host to 90,000 guests during the day was almost empty with not more than 40 spectators during her performance later in the night.
According to report, most of the spectators left because they were unaware that she was performing that night. Brandy was secretly slated to be the surprise grand finale at the Nelson Mandela Sports and Culture Day, but since fans had no idea the singer would be the final act at the end of a packed schedule, almost all of them had left the building by the time she stepped on stage. Oops.
When Brandy came out for her big moment, however, only 40 people remained. Oh, and reportedly, the lights were on (which was probably one of the reasons guests thought this shindig was done).
"Brandy performed to an empty stadium. With the stadium lights on," local musician Kabomo tweeted.
Other event-goers shared Kabomo's shock. Twitter user Crazy Girl Tutu (how we love that name), shared, "I gave up the min I saw the empty stadium. Brandy performing for the chairs!"
But Dawn Ngwenya thought Brandy had at least one fan left, tweeting, "Well Brandy is going to perform for herself and Mbaks only. Stadium now empty." Mbacks refers to Fikile Mbacks, South Africa's minister of sport, who likely had advance warning that the star would be showing up.
Faced with an empty stadium awash in light, Brandy didn't stick around long either. "People didn't know there was a concert after the games. No one knew Brandy was around. Maybe a 40 people audience," Kabomo shared on the social media site. "She sulked after two songs and walked off."
To be honest, we can't really blame her. And while we're fairly certain Brandy won't be running back to perform in South Africa again anytime soon, we also have a hunch that next time she does, people will know about it.

We owed Keshi 4 months' salary - NFF

The Nigeria Football Federation has admitted to owing Super Eagles’ handler Stephen Keshi four months’ salary, a total of twenty million naira only.
The chairman of the Technical committee of the Federation, Barrister Chris Green admitted that the coach is yet to be paid any salary since he lifted the AFCON trophy in South Africa.
"Yes, we owe Keshi about four months’ salary. It is also true that we have not paid him since the AFCON feat in South Africa. However, we have structured our national team in a manner in which coaches get daily allowance, match bonus, and free feeding while they are in camp. But we are working round the clock to ensure that by the end of this month Keshi’s outstanding are settled,"  he said.
Keshi is paid five million naira monthly by the federation.

Super Eagles to play for Mandela

Reigning African champions, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will confront South Africa’s Bafana Bafana on Wednesday August 14 in the "Mandella Challenge" in Durban to honour the ailing former president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela.
“We have signed the contract. We feel delighted to have the opportunity to accord honour to one of the great sons of Africa. Dr. Nelson Mandela deserves this honour.
The NFF will present Nigeria’s ‘A’ team and SAFA will do the same. It promises to be a memorable encounter,” said Aminu Maigari, President of Nigeria Football Federation.
his South Africa counterpart added, "It is a great honour for us to be associated with such a huge and significant, and also highly important project for our former State President. When we got the invite to be part of this venture, we did not hesitate as Madiba has made a selfless sacrifice for the nation. We are obviously mindful of the fact that the former President is not well in hospital. We can only wish him all the best for him to come out and be among us so he can continue to inspire us as he has done for many years. This event shows that no one can unite the country quite like he has, and we are proud to be taking part".

WCQ: FIFA deducts 3 points from Ethiopia

FIFA have thrown South Africa and Botswana a lifeline in their bid to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

The world governing body confirmed on Monday that Ethiopia would be docked three points from their qualifier win over Botswana in early June, cutting their lead in the pool to two points.

That means both South Africa and Botswana could overhaul them in the final round of qualifiers with a win when they meet in September, if Ethiopia trip up against Central African Republic.

“FIFA can confirm that the Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) has been sanctioned for fielding an ineligible player in the preliminary competition match for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil between Botswana and Ethiopia played on 8 June 2013,” a statement said on Monday.

“The match is declared to be forfeited and awarded 3-0 in favour of Botswana, with the EFF also receiving a fine of CHF 6,000 after the FIFA Disciplinary Committee considered the EFF liable for having breached art. 55 par. 1 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code and art. 8 of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil Regulations.

“The sanction relates to the Ethiopian player Minyahile Teshome Beyene failing to serve the automatic one-match suspension imposed on him following two cautions received in two different matches (art. 17 par. 3 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code).

Beyene picked up yellow cards against South Africa last June and Botswana in March, but was then fielded again in the next match against The Zebras when the teams met again last month, despite the fact he should have sat out a one-match suspension.
