The immediate past Secretary to Akwa Ibom State Government,
Mr. Okon Umana, has condemned the amendment of the state pension law for
former governors of the state, describing same as provocative.
Speaking
with newsmen in Uyo, yesterday, Umana said any accountable government
should have allowed for a review of the bill to take away those
controversial provisions kicked against by the citizens of the state
before it was finally signed into law.
Umana described as
provocative, the provisions of the law approving N100 million annual
medical allowance for a former governor and N30 million for a former
deputy governor, N60,000 annual allowance for domestic staff and a 5
-bedroom mansion either in Abuja or in Uyo, for former governors.
He
said “These sections of the law are highly offensive and insensitive to
the plight of Akwa Ibom people and therefore unacceptable."
