Jonathan lays foundation of Ayo Oritsejafor's university; urges investment on youths

President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, urged Nigerians to join hands with his government and invest on the youths of the nation, saying that it was the only progressive way the country could grow.

Jonathan, in Omadino,  Warri South Local Government Area, Delta State, during the ground-breaking ceremony of Eagle Heights University, promoted by the Word of Life Bible Church, said there was need to plan for the youths and impact on them knowledge-driven technology which, he noted, was vital for the progress and development of any society.

According to Jonathan, when a society cares only for the present generation without making adequate provision for the future generation, such a country was planning to fail.
Impressed by the motto of the institution, Building and Equipping the People Who Build the Nation, the president said: “Without building people, you cannot build a nation, you cannot give what you don’t have. If we don’t put something into our children, they will have nothing to develop the country.

“If we only think about today and don’t plan for the young ones that are coming, we won’t make any headway as a nation. The quality and welfare of the younger ones coming are what we should all invest in. We should all invest in our children and grandchildren if we really love this country. When we travel out, we admire what we see there. It was done by people who invested in their children, who have in turn developed their societies.”

The president who said his administration had recognised the need to develop Nigerian youths by establishing 14 universities across the country, commended the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN president, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, for his vision in building the young ones, noting that he was sharing the vision of the Federal Government, which they have been doing by assisting the states in ensuring that their citizens have basic education.

Delta State governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, commended President Jonathan for his unwavering commitment to the development of the country through a well designed transformation agenda.
Thanking Pastor Oritsejafor and his wife for helping to develop the environment with not only infrastructural development, but building men and women morally and assisting to eradicate poverty, he promised to assist the proposed institution and called on Omadino people, the host community, to keep the peace.

Earlier in his opening remarks, Pastor Oritsejafor explained that Eagle Heights University was established to be at the forefront of the academic transformation of Africa and Nigeria in particular.
