Court ordered Secondary school student to pay N50,000 for stealing N500 kola nuts

An Omu-Aran Upper Area Court in Kwara has granted bail in the sum of 50, 000 to a 20-year old secondary school student, Kolawole Abiodun for stealing  kola nuts  worth N500.


Abiodun, who lives at Isanlu area of   Ilofa, headquarters of  Oke-Ero Local Government Area, was  arraigned  on a two-count charge of  trespassing and theft.

The Prosecutor, Insp  Abibat Ogbaru,  told the court that the accused committed the offence on Sunday  at a kola nut farm in Igbo-Ijemo, Ilofa.

Ogbaru said that the accused had about 10. a.m. entered the farm belonging to  67-year-old Bakare Olaoye.

She said that the accused  was caught  while plucking the kola nuts  and  handed over to  security men.

The prosecutor added that the accused was arrested while in possession of a knife and other items.

She said  the offences contravened sections 287 and 346 of the Penal Code.

The accused pleaded guilty to the charges.

The judge, Mr Adeyemi Fagbemi, granted  bail to the accused in the sum of  N50,000  with one surety in like sum.

He adjourned the case to   Feb. 11 for further hearing
