Match- Fixing:Onazi's captain gets 6 months ban

Stefano Mauri , the captain of Nigeria Ogenyi Onazi Italian club,Lazio was banned for six months by the Italian football federation on Friday for his role in a match-fixing scandal.

Lazio escaped a points deduction in the affair but were fined 40,000 euros (52,900 dollars). Prosecutors had called for six points to be docked and a ban of four-and-a-half years for Mauri.

Mauri was found guilty of not reporting the fixing of a Serie A match between Lazio and Lecce im May 2011 but cleared of anything wrong in an investigation into a match between Lazio and Genoa the same month.

Lecce were fined 20,000 euros and Genoa cleared.

Former Lecce player Stefano Ferrario was also banned for six months for not reporting match fixing.

Mauri was one of eight players accused of rigging the two Serie A games.
