A 90-year-old man and an 89-year-old
woman who met at their Wisconsin assisted-living facility said they are
planning their wedding for this weekend.
Ernie Bartell, 90, said his wife of 65 years, Audrey, died in April,
but he felt he had lost her to Alzheimer's disease years ago, so when he
felt himself falling for Harriet Novak at the Harmony Living Centers in
Franklin he decided not to waste any time, the Milwaukee Journal
Sentinel reported Wednesday.
"I went up to her," Bartell said of the June proposal, "and I said, 'Harriet, would you please be my wife?'"
Novak, who will turn 90 in November, said she had to ask Bartell to
speak up before she could hear his proposal and tearfully accept.
The couple said their children from previous marriages talked them
out of eloping in Las Vegas, so they are planning a religious wedding
Saturday.
"We're happy to be together," Novak said. "We're hoping it will be as many years as possible."
