Former Nigeria international Seyi Olofinjana has been dragged to court as a result of a rash tackle he made against a Nottingham Forest striker over three-years-ago.
The 27-year-old Dexter Blackstock is seeking compensation form both Olofinjana and his erstwhile employers Cardiff City, after a tackle from the Nigerian in November 2010 put him out of the game for fifteen months with a ‘horrific’ knee injury.
In his court action, Blackstock claims Olofinjana was ‘negligent’ in ‘failing to play the ball’ and ‘challenging in a way that caused a reasonably foreseeable risk of injury’ in the 88th minute of the game.
The amount for which Olofinjana has been sued has not been disclosed but according to the contents of the Writ of Summons, it is believed to be over £50,000.
Blackstock’s barrister, Jonathan Crystal, said in the writ that Olofinjana, 33, “played Mr Blackstock rather than the ball” and “raised his foot” in the challenge, “forcefully striking” his opponent’s shin and calf and failed “to control his momentum”.
