Ten months after the Oyo/Osun state area command seized 56,750 arms and ammunition from smugglers at Saki area, the command, has again, intercepted another 30,000 live cartridges in the same area.
The contraband which were concealed in white sacs were hidden under some tubers of yam. Before handing over the items to the state police command, the Controller, Mr. Richard Oteri said: “It was to showcase the strategic and remarkable seizure of 30,000 pieces of ammunition packed in twenty cartons of 6/250 rounds of cartridges seized by one of the anti-smuggling teams of the command.”
He hinted further that the team that caught the driver of the bus with number plate KW 286 SHH was led by SC Okoi Arikpo arrested a white coloured Toyota Hiace bus along Saki-Ago Are axis of Oyo State in the early hours of Monday, March 10, 2014.
“The arms were concealed with tubers of yams and bags of dried cassava tubers. The driver of the bus who is the main suspect by name Abdulraheem Adegoke is under our custody and will be handed over to the police for further investigation,” he said.
Collecting the items on behalf of the police, Mr. Musa Kimo commended the customs area command for a job well done.
He said: “The police are happy with the command. We are going to be professional in our investigation and would surely get to the root of the matter. This command is very alert.”
The suspect who drove the bus identified himself as Abdulraheem Adegoke, claimed ignorance of the contents in the sacs.
