Men carjacked couple while woman was in labor

Police in Maryland said they arrested two men accused of carjacking a couple leaving for the hospital for the birth of their child.

Annapolis police said the pregnant woman and her boyfriend were getting into their car around 4:30 a.m. Sunday, after the woman had gone into labor, when they were held up by two gunmen, the Baltimore Sun reported Tuesday.

A witness called 911 and the suspects fled in the victims' car when officers arrived. Police gave chase and Devery Kelley, 24, and Cornell Robinson, 44, were arrested when they abandoned the car and attempted to flee on foot, police said.

The 24-year-old pregnant woman told officers a third robber fled in a second car. She was transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center.

Police did not release further information about the woman's condition.

Kelley and Robinson were charged with armed robbery, first-degree assault and weapons violations.
