A Zuba Upper Area court on Tuesday sentenced Mohammed Badamasi of Basa Airport Road to seven months in prison for stealing a live turkey.
Malam Aminu Sa’ad, the presiding judge, handed down the sentence after Badamasi pleaded guilty to one-count charge of theft.
Sa’ad, however, gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N25,000.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Haruna Danlami, told the court that on April 7, a police team, while on patrol along Dankogi-Kaduna expressway, Zuba, Abuja, came upon Badamasi and arrested him with a turkey.
Danlami said that when the police interrogated the convict, he admitted to stealing the turkey.
According to the prosecutor, the turkey belongs to one pastor, popularly known as Sharp, of the same address as the convict.
The prosecutor said the convict’s offence contravened the provisions of Section 288 of the Penal Code.
He adjourned the case till April 15 for hearing.
