A 55-year-old, Mary Akpan and her two children, were on Wednesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates' Court for allegedly assaulting a pregnant woman.
Mary and her children -- Ubong Akpan, 25, and Aniette Akpan, 33 – who live at No.16, Molushi Avenue, Surulere, Lagos, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, assault and breach of peace.
The prosecutor, Insp. Edet Okoi, said the woman and her children conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace when they assaulted a pregnant woman, one Mrs Chioma Onwu.
Okoi alleged that the accused also assaulted the complainant (the pregnant woman) by calling her a mad woman.
According to him, the accused committed the offences at 9.00 a.m. on March 13 at their residence.
The offences, Okoi said, contravened Sections 166 (d), 172 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused may be sentenced to a three-year imprisonment on conviction.
The trio, however, entered a plea of `not guilty’.
In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs Margaret Dan-Oni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 each with one surety each in like sum.
The case was adjourned to May 15 for mention.
