43-year-old woman bags prison term for drug trafficking

A 43-year-old drug peddler, Mutiyat Rasak, was on Thursday sentenced to seven months imprisonment for trafficking in Cannabis Sativa by a Federal High Court in Ibadan. She was arraigned on a one-count charge of dealing in Cannabis.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Prosecutor, Bridget Viashimah, said that Rasak committed the crime on Nov.13, 2007, at about 12.30 p.m., at Ikoyi-ile in the Ogbomoso area of Oyo State. The offence contravened Section 11 of the NDELA Act of the Federal Laws of Nigeria.
According to her, the defendant had jumped bail when she was first arraigned in 2007 and was re-arrested in March 2013.
“Rasak was caught with 600 grammes of Cannabis Sativa also known as marijuana and even feigned to be suffering from memory loss when she was being interrogated,”.
The defendant who pleaded guilty prayed the court to temper justice with mercy.
Justice Abimbola Obaseki-Adejumo sentenced her to seven months imprisonment with hard labour without any option of fine. The sentence starts from March when she was arrested.
