A commercial bus driver, Mr. Adewale Adeleke Adetayo
was on Tuesday arraigned before the family court 6, Ikeja Magistrate Court, for
allegedly defiling his daughters (names withheld), aged 10 and 13 years.
Adetayo, a native of Modakeke, Osun State, who
plies Ikotun – Mushin route was apprehended by Esther Child Right Foundation
and Compassionate Women Initiative following a tip off by one of his
neighbours.
According to the president of Esther Child Right
Foundation, Mrs. Ogwu Esther, the accused confessed to the crime in his police
report and also did the same when he was quizzed in a popular Yoruba programme,
“Labe Orun.”
Adetayo reportedly confessed during the programme
that he had been sleeping with the girls at his Abaranje residence after he
divorced their mother.
A radio anchor, Mr. Ademola Olota, said he was
called and informed of the incident on June 26 by one of his listeners who
craved for anonymity.

His words,“It was just few minutes after my
programme on that fateful day that a listener called me and pleaded not to
mention his name because he wanted to discuss something with me. When he told
me that his neighbor was sleeping with his daughters; it was strange to me. So
I chose to contact the NGOs and we apprehended him on Friday, June 28 by telling
him that we want to hire his bus.
“He was shocked when we confronted him with the
fact and handed him over to the police.
It is strange that a man will be sleeping with his daughters.”
Olota claimed some of the accused neighbours knew
about the incident but were afraid that he could harm the girls if confronted
with the facts.
The eldest of the daughters said her father had been
sleeping with her for about two years and would deprive her of feeding
allowances whenever she refused.
“Most times, he came at night and told me to off
my pant. If I refuse him, he will go to my sister and sleep with her. He will
not give me money for food the following day but he will give additional money
to my younger sister,” she said.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty when the
one-count charge of defilement was read to him and was remanded in prison with
a bail condition of two hundred thousand naira and a surety with landed
property in the state.
The case was adjourned till July 13 for further
hearing.
Meanwhile the girls have been taken to a correctional
home in Idi Araba by the NGO.
