Nigerian Air Force invents bomb- detecting Robot, AMEBO III

In its efforts to combat the increasing rate of bombing in the country, the Nigerian Air Force has invented a bomb-detecting robot capable of defusing Improvised Explosive Devices.
The Nigerian Air Force Institute of Technology, Kadunna said it had invented an Unmanned ground Vehicle (bomb detecting robot) that would assist in checking the incidence of bombings in the country.
The Commandant of the institute, Air Vice Marshal John Oshoniyi made the disclosure at the briefing to herald the institute’s 42nd graduation lecture titled “Enhancing Wealth Creation Through The Application Of Innovative Technology; Research and Development: The Role of Tertiary Institutions”.
Oshoniyi said, “ in our rsearch efforts, following the incessant bombings in the country, I informed you last year that AFIT had commenced research into the development of robot capable of remotely defusing high-calibre bombs and Improvised Explosive Devices. I am indeed pleased to inform you that we are making remarkable progress in the research. We already have a prototype of the robot”.
. He said the institute embarked on the research after the death of a police sergeant, Sunday Badang, who attempted to defuse a bomb in Kadunna on February 14, 2012.

He also added that the institute has also invented Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, codenamed AMEBO III, an improved version of AMEBO I and II. He said AMEBO III will assist in pipeline and power monitoring to reduce the rate of vandalism and economic sabotage in the country. He added that AMEBO III can be used to enhance internal security through the provision of timely information when effectively deployed in crisis-prone areas.
